The Fen Gallop

I spent a delightful yet busy morning in the lovely village of Willingham today, race timing the 2022 Fen Gallop. The Gallop comprises two race distances of 10KM or 4 miles, as well as children’s races and a toddler sprint.

Having run for many years now, this event is always well attended and this year was no different, with almost 300 entrants across the two main race distances.

Despite the rain overnight, the weather turned out fine and actually became quite warm as the morning moved on, providing almost ideal conditions for the runners. I even managed to find a few minutes to take a quick look round once I had all of the timing equipment set up and running smoothly.

Very well done to everybody who took part today and congratulations to those who achieved a new personal best!

Flaming June Half Marathon

We were off to Impington, near Cambridge, today on behalf of Race Time Result to time the Flaming June Half Marathon and 10K. With more than 350 entrants across both distances, the day looked to be a full and exciting one.

The Flaming June Half has been going for some years now and is always very well attended. This year was no exception and all of today’s athletes seemed to be in fantastic spirits as they warmed up for the event.

With a single start and finish line at this event, my job was fairly easy and everything was set up and running well before Gun Time, giving me the chance to soak up the atmosphere for a short while before things got busy again.

With the athletes for the Half Marathon and 10K all underway by quarter to ten, a short reconfigurre of the equipment was in order ready for their return to cross the Finish Line. With some fantastic effort put in by everyone attending, I didn’t have to wait long!

A massive well done to everybody who took part in today’s races. I could see just how much effort you all put in and some of those times just speak for themselves!

Springfield Striders’ Friday Night 5

This evening’s conditions were almost perfect for the Springfield Striders Friday Night 5, held in the quiet and historic village of Pleshey on the outskirts of Chelmsford. Warm, dry but with a nice cool breeze (not too strong) it was a real pleasure to see the 250 athletes warming up and preparing as I performed the final systems checks ready for Gun Time.

The Friday Night 5 is the fifth event in the Essex Athletics Road Race Championship and the top 25 finishers in each age category receive points that go towards the chance for a medal at the end of the season.

I attended the event on behalf of Race Time Result to provide the race timing services for the evening. With separate start and finish lines to keep me busy, as well as the important task of providing regular results updates to Essex for the evenings awards.

A huge well done to everybody who took part and congratulations to all those who beat their personal bests (and in one case set a new course record!).

The Run in The Woods, organised by the Rotary Club of Bourne, is an absolutely lovely trail running event through the delightful woodlands of Bourne in Lincolnshire. Race Time Result and I were delighted to be able to offer our timing services for this great event this year and it was brilliant to see so many of you coming out to run.

Leigh-On-Sea After Dark 10K

My first opportunity of 2022 to get out with the race timing team from Race Time Result at the Leigh-on-Sea Striders After Dark 10K, with 275 amazing athletes looking to start the New Year off with a bang.

With separate start and finish lines, situated about 100M apart and each with their own independent timing setup, we arrived in plenty of time to get all of the equipment assembled and tested before Gun Time.

The After Dark 10K Start Line

The After Dark 10K is a relatively unique event in that it’s the only one on our calendar this year (to date) that has to be prepared without the aid of natural light. Still, despite the limitations imposed by the cold wintery conditions, and the additional challenges presented by the darkness, we had a thoroughly enjoyable time getting everything in place and ready to go.

The atmosphere of the event was lively and exciting, despite the chilly conditions, and all of the athletes seemed very keen to get started.

Well done to everyone who took part and we hope you enjoyed the evening!
