Forestry England have launched a new challenge for 2024 – The Forest 450! – and I’ve decided that I want to give it a go.
My First #Forest450 Ride
Inspired by the challenge, I took my bike out last night through the gorgeous trails of Thetford Forest to clock up my first 17 miles (27KM) towards the 450 mile total. I had the forest almost entirely to myself (probably not true, but it certainly felt that way) and had a very relaxing time as I headed in no particular direction.
In fact, it was so quiet last night that I had a small herd of deer cross one of the trails just a few meters in front of me, something I wish I’d had the foresight to capture with my Go-Pro. I also spotted a fox darting in and out of the undergrowth at the side of the trail at one point – a sight even less common than witnessing the deer that roam the vast forest.
